About
The RSDK modding team decompiled Retro Engine v3, the engine behind the 2011 remaster of Sonic CD. Compared with the official PC version it gives a sharp, pixel-perfect display, fully remappable controls through settings.ini, a window that respects Windows shortcuts, and native x64 as well as x86 builds. It also supports the updated mobile scripts, so features the official PC version never received can be played on PC.
Like its sibling decompilations it has a built-in mod loader and API with save-file redirection, a dev menu, and can load save data from Steam's userdata folder if you played the original Steam version.
No game content is included. Without the assets from an official release the decompilation will not run. The team's license requires every prebuilt binary to ship with the Origins Plus DLC content disabled by default.
- Pixel-perfect rendering with full palette support
- Remappable controls and a settings.ini
- Mod loader and mobile-script features on PC
- Loads your Steam saves
- Windows (x64 and 32-bit), macOS and Linux builds
What you need
The port contains none of the game. These come from your own copy and stay on your machine.
Data files from your copy of Sonic CD (2011)
The game data from an official release: the original Steam release or Sonic Origins on Steam, Sonic Origins on the Epic Games Store or Switch, or the mobile releases on iOS and Android (delisted, but redownloadable from your purchase history if you bought them). You only need the assets, not a working install. The project's datapack guide explains which files to take from each source.
Only the FMV files from the original Steam release are supported; the mobile and Origins video files do not work. Source of these fingerprints

- Yes, as far as provenance and integrity can be proven. The download on this page is RSDKv3 Decompilation's own GitHub release (1.3.3), pinned to a SHA-256 in Recompiled's public lockfile, so you can confirm the file you received is byte for byte what the project published. RSDKv3 Decompilation is open source, so anyone can read what the program does. Hash the file on the Verify page before you run it.
- Is RSDKv3 Decompilation legal?
- Yes. RSDKv3 Decompilation is a native port built from a decompilation of the game, and the download contains none of Sonic CD (2011): it reads the game from a copy you already own. What is not legal is obtaining a ROM or disc image you do not own, and Recompiled never hosts or links to one.
