About
Pokémon Azoth is a Chinese ROM hack of FireRed built on the Complete FireRed Upgrade engine; it remakes the Johto region and keeps Kanto as its postgame. This project is an English translation of version 1.3.3, written from scratch rather than from an earlier partial translation, covering roughly twenty thousand strings across both regions.
The translator is open that the work is in beta: it was machine-assisted and still needs human proofreading, some graphics still carry Chinese text, and a handful of reported issues are open on the tracker. Saves from earlier betas carry over; emulator save states do not.
The patch is a single BPS file published in each GitHub release, with the base ROM's CRC32 embedded, so a wrong or modified FireRed is refused before anything is written. Recompiled pins that file and applies it to the FireRed dump you supply, in your browser.
- Applies directly to clean FireRed USA 1.0, no intermediate hack needed
- Johto remake on the CFRU engine with Kanto as postgame
- Around 20,000 strings translated, beta quality
- BPS patch with base and output checksums
What you need
The patch contains none of this. It comes from a cartridge you own and stays on your machine.
Pokémon FireRed Version (Game Boy Advance)
An English Pokémon FireRed cartridge dump, USA release, revision 1.0 only. The translation patch applies directly to clean FireRed; you do not need the Chinese hack. Revision 1.1 is not compatible.

CRC32 and SHA-1 are stated in the project's README and release notes, and the SHA-1 matches the pokefirered.gba target listed by pret/pokefirered. The BPS patch embeds the same CRC32 as its source checksum.
Fingerprints from the project's own documentation.
How patching works here
- 1
Drop your Pokémon FireRed Version dump on the panel. It is hashed in your browser and matched against the fingerprints below; a wrong region, revision or an already-modified file is refused.
- 2
The pinned BPS patch is fetched from the GitHub release and its SHA-256 compared with the lockfile. If your browser cannot fetch it directly, download it from the release and drop it in; the same check runs.
- 3
The patch is applied in memory. The format's own checksum of the result is compared with what we got, and the patched file is offered as a download. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is kept.
- 4
Load the saved .gba in an emulator for the Game Boy Advance.
Questions people ask
- Is it legal to download the Pokémon Azoth English translation patch?
- The patch contains only the author's changes, not the game. You apply it to a dump of a Pokémon FireRed Version cartridge you own, and that dump never leaves your device. Recompiled does not host or link to ROMs, and never offers pre-patched files.
- Do I need a Pokémon FireRed Version ROM?
- Yes, a clean dump of your own cartridge (USA 1.0). The page checks its fingerprint in your browser and refuses anything else before the patch is applied.
- Where does the patch file come from?
- From the author's own GitHub release (beta-24). Its SHA-256 is pinned in a public lockfile and checked before use, so you get exactly what the author published.
