About
Pokémon Emerald Legacy is built on the pret disassembly of Emerald and closes out TheSmithPlays' Legacy trilogy. The brief is the same as for Yellow and Crystal Legacy: keep the feel of the original game and fix what the authors consider its real flaws, from a limited Pokémon pool and weak rival storyline to an Elite Four that never pushed back.
The project explicitly excludes the physical/special split, later-generation moves, new evolutions and the Fairy type. Instead it rebalances within Generation 3's own tools, adjusts the level curve, improves boss fights and adds a larger postgame. Quality-of-life additions include a 120-slot bag, IVs and EVs on the summary screen, and optional Hard and Hardcore modes.
Patches ship as a zip in each GitHub release. Recompiled pins that zip, unpacks the BPS inside it in your browser and applies it to the Emerald dump you supply. No pre-patched ROM is ever produced on this site.

What you need
The patch contains none of this. It comes from a cartridge you own and stays on your machine.
Pokémon Emerald Version (Game Boy Advance)
An English Pokémon Emerald cartridge dump (the USA/Europe release). There is only one English revision, so one patch covers it.

The SHA-1 is stated in README.md inside the release zip's "Patching Instructions" folder and matches the pokeemerald.gba target listed by pret/pokeemerald. The CRC32 is the source checksum the author embedded in the BPS patch. Alternate-language cartridges are not compatible.
Fingerprints from the project's own documentation.
How patching works here
- 1
Drop your Pokémon Emerald Version dump on the panel. It is hashed in your browser and matched against the fingerprints below; a wrong region, revision or an already-modified file is refused.
- 2
The pinned BPS patch, inside the author's release zip, is fetched from the GitHub release and its SHA-256 compared with the lockfile. If your browser cannot fetch it directly, download it from the release and drop it in; the same check runs.
- 3
The patch is applied in memory. The format's own checksum of the result is compared with what we got, and the patched file is offered as a download. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is kept.
- 4
Load the saved .gba in an emulator for the Game Boy Advance.
Questions people ask
- Is it legal to download the Pokémon Emerald Legacy patch?
- The patch contains only the author's changes, not the game. You apply it to a dump of a Pokémon Emerald Version cartridge you own, and that dump never leaves your device. Recompiled does not host or link to ROMs, and never offers pre-patched files.
- Do I need a Pokémon Emerald Version ROM?
- Yes, a clean dump of your own cartridge (USA, Europe). The page checks its fingerprint in your browser and refuses anything else before the patch is applied.
- Where does the patch file come from?
- From the author's own GitHub release (V1.1.4). Its SHA-256 is pinned in a public lockfile and checked before use, so you get exactly what the author published.
