Legal

Short, because the model is simple. Recompiled is a catalog of open-source software and a verification tool. It is not a file host for games.

What is here

  • Links to port, emulator and launcher binaries on their own projects' official GitHub releases, with the SHA-256 of each file recorded in a public lockfile. Where a mirror exists, it holds a byte-identical copy of the same open-source binary.
  • Links to patch files (ROM hacks and fan translations) on their authors' GitHub releases. A patch contains the author's changes, not the original game, and is applied in the visitor's browser to a file they supply.
  • Fingerprints (hashes) of the game files each project supports, copied from that project's own documentation, so a visitor can check a file they already have. A hash identifies a file; it is not the file.

What is not

  • No ROMs, disc images, ISOs, cartridge dumps or game installers.
  • No console firmware, BIOS images or decryption keys.
  • No extracted game assets and no pre-patched files.
  • No links to any site that offers the above.
  • Nothing uploaded by visitors. Hashing and patching happen in the visitor's browser; no file ever reaches a server we run.

Trademarks

Game titles, console names and company names on this site identify the original works and their owners. They are the property of their respective rights holders. Recompiled is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any game publisher, platform holder or upstream project, and listing a project does not imply the project endorses this site.

Rights holders and takedown requests

If you believe something listed here infringes your rights, write to legal@recompiled.gg with the page URL, the work concerned and your relationship to it. A listing whose upstream project receives a takedown is removed the same day the takedown becomes known, without waiting for a request to us. We do not host the material that takedowns usually concern, so most requests will be about a link to a third-party project; we will act on those too and tell you what we did.

Project maintainers

If you maintain a listed project and would rather not be listed, want a fact corrected, or want your donation or support link shown, open an issue on the repository or email the address above. Delisting on a maintainer's request is immediate and unconditional.

Privacy

No accounts, no cookies for tracking, no uploads. The site uses privacy-preserving, cookie-free page analytics that record which pages are viewed, not who viewed them. Files you drop on the Verify or patch pages are read by your browser only.

No warranty

Everything listed is third-party software provided by its own project under its own license. Recompiled verifies that a file matches what its project published; it does not warrant that the software works, is safe, or is suitable for any purpose.
